Perhaps it was a twist of fate, in the late 1800’s when a young German immigrant arrived in America bringing with him an Old-World recipe for pretzels. On November 18, 1911, after working for other bakers throughout Pennsylvania, Adolph Benzel opened the doors to his own 75 square foot building in Altoona, Pennsylvania and Benzel’s Bretzel Bakery was born. Along with his cherished recipe, he brought with him a new word. Adolph Benzel’s pretzels would be called Bretzels.
Today over one hundred years later continuing with a commitment to quality and pride, the business is a leading manufacturer of quality pretzel products nationwide.
Made with care and precision, the company manufactures a diverse product line under their own brands, Pennysticks and Benzel’s, as well as private label products and contract manufacturing.
The company, built on the dreams of a young German immigrant, continues to flourish today.
